Compare the Complete Home Battery Cost

A DIY battery kit may reduce some purchasing costs, but the enclosure price is not the finished system price.

For DIY, include the kit, compatible cells, additional components, tools, assembly and testing. For an assembled battery, include any equipment needed beyond the battery itself. Both options need delivery and installation considered.

A buyer who already owns suitable tools and has experienced help faces a different budget from someone paying for every stage. That is why a fixed claim such as “DIY saves 50%” is not a useful starting point.

Ask for itemised quotations and compare:

  • Similar usable capacity and continuous power output.
  • Included protection, connection and monitoring components.
  • Assembly, configuration and installation charges.
  • Delivery costs and support arrangements.

Fench Energy’s listed prices are Poland warehouse pickup prices. Shipping is charged separately according to the destination postcode and order details. Include the delivery quote in your comparison before ordering.

Make Sure the Capacity Means What You Expect

An empty box labelled “15kWh” does not contain 15kWh of stored energy. The cells and configuration determine the completed pack’s nominal capacity.

For illustration, sixteen 3.2V, 280Ah cells connected in series give:

16 × 3.2V × 280Ah ÷ 1,000 = 14.336kWh nominal capacity.

This is a capacity calculation, not a complete assembly specification. Actual usable energy depends on operating limits, reserve settings and system losses.

When choosing LiFePO4 battery cells, check physical dimensions, terminal arrangement and electrical specifications against the kit documentation.

Also distinguish energy from power. Capacity in kWh tells you how much energy is stored. Output in kW determines how much equipment the system can run at once. More capacity does not automatically mean greater output.

Check Inverter Compatibility Before Ordering

A matching “48V” label is not enough to confirm compatibility.

The inverter must support the battery’s operating voltage, charging limits and any required communication protocol—the way the battery and inverter exchange information. Firmware and configuration can also affect operation.

This matters for both an assembled battery and a DIY battery kit.

For technical background, Victron’s BMS selection guide explains how protection signals interact with charging equipment and loads in its systems. That documentation is not proof that a particular Fench battery works with a particular inverter.

Provide your exact inverter model before buying. If you need power during outages, say so: backup operation depends on the complete system, not simply the presence of a battery.

Who Will Assemble and Support the Battery?

Before choosing DIY, decide who will check the component fit, assemble the pack, configure protection settings and test it before use.

Pre-installed parts can reduce assembly work, but they do not eliminate these responsibilities. Household electrical connections should be handled by a suitably qualified installer.

For homeowners comparing installation options, Energy Saving Trust’s battery storage guide recommends professional advice and obtaining installation quotations.

Check after-sales arrangements too. Ask who diagnoses faults, which documents are required and whether assembly-related damage is excluded. Keep your purchase records and commissioning information.

Which Option Fits Your Home?

Choose an assembled battery if you prefer fewer component decisions and an internally completed pack. Consider a DIY battery kit if component choice matters to you and you have reliable technical support.
