Záložní domácí baterie: Jak vybrat systém pro výpadky proudu
Systém domácí záložní baterie může udržet vybrané spotřebiče v chodu během výpadku proudu – ale baterie, měnič a elektrická instalace musí všechny podporovat záložní provoz.
Správný systém potřebuje dostatek uložené energie pro požadovanou dobu provozu a dostatečný výkon pro provoz vašich spotřebičů. Také vyžaduje kompatibilní zařízení, vhodné přepínání a jasný plán, které domácí okruhy zůstanou napájené.
Začněte třemi otázkami:
- Co musí zůstat v chodu?
- Jak dlouho by to mělo běžet?
- Kolik energie budou tyto spotřebiče potřebovat současně?
Tento průvodce vysvětluje, jak porovnat kapacitu baterie, odhadovanou dobu provozu, kompatibilitu měniče, dokumentované specifikace produktu a celkové náklady před výběrem záložní baterie pro váš domov.
- Podporované domácí okruhy a elektrickou ochranu.
|---|---|---|
| Základní nezbytnosti | Lednička, osvětlení, router a nabíjení telefonu | Spotřeba energie a požadovaná doba provozu |
| Práce a každodenní komfort | Nezbytnosti plus počítače, televize nebo vybrané čerpadla | Simultaneous demand and starting loads |
| Broader household coverage | Multiple circuits and selected high-power appliances | Inverter output, circuit design and battery capacity |
Make an appliance list before selecting a home backup battery. Record the electrical power demand and expected operating time for each load.
Use measured consumption where available. Refrigerators and air conditioners cycle, so their rated input power may differ from their average consumption. Motors and compressors can also require additional starting power.
A system that comfortably supports lights and a refrigerator may need a different design to include cooking, heating or air conditioning.
3. What Size Battery Backup Do You Need for a Power Outage?
Size backup storage around the energy your selected loads need, then allow for the battery’s operating window and conversion losses.
Start with:
Required appliance energy (kWh) = average load (kW) × backup duration (hours)
For example, an average load of 500W running for eight hours needs:
0.5kW × 8 hours = 4kWh delivered to the appliances
The required nominal battery capacity will be higher if only part of its stored energy is available and some energy is lost during conversion.
Nominal Capacity, Available Energy and AC Output
These describe different things:
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Nominal capacity | The battery’s rated stored energy under specified conditions |
| Available battery energy | The energy available within the permitted operating window and current state of charge |
| Energy delivered to appliances | Available energy after conversion and other system losses |
| Backup output power | The power the complete system can supply at one time |
A simplified planning calculation is:
Estimated appliance energy = nominal capacity × available SOC fraction × assumed conversion efficiency
SOC means state of charge. If a battery starts at 95% and stops at 15%, the available SOC window is 80 percentage points.
This is an approximate planning method. It is not a substitute for a manufacturer’s tested usable-energy specification.
How Long Will a 10kWh Battery Power a House?
Under the assumptions below, a 10kWh battery could supply a 500W average load for approximately 14.4 hours. At 1.5kW, the estimate falls to 4.8 hours.
| Example nominal capacity | 300W average load | 500W average load | 1,500W average load |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5.12kWh | 12.3 hours | 7.4 hours | 2.5 hours |
| 10 kWh | 24.0 hours | 14.4 hours | 4.8 hours |
| 16kWh | 38.4 hours | 23.0 hours | 7.7 hours |
Calculation assumptions: 80% of nominal energy is available, conversion efficiency is 90%, the average load remains constant, and no recharging occurs. Additional standby consumption, temperature effects, ageing and varying loads are excluded. These are calculated examples, not measured Fench Energy product runtimes. The 10kWh row is a comparison example, not a product listing.
For the 10kWh, 500W example:
10 × 0.80 × 0.90 ÷ 0.50 = 14.4 hours
If an outage begins with less charge, runtime decreases. For example, a 5.12kWh battery starting at 80% and stopping at 15% has a 65-percentage-point window. With the same assumed efficiency and a 500W load, the estimate is approximately 6.0 hours.
For a more detailed load calculation, read our home battery sizing guide. Once you know your target capacity, compare Fench Energy home storage batteries.
How Many Batteries Do You Need to Run a House?
The number depends on energy demand, module capacity, output limits and the manufacturer’s approved configuration.
Using the eight-hour, 500W example, the appliances need 4kWh. A 5.12kWh module with an assumed 80% available window and 90% conversion efficiency provides:
5.12 × 0.80 × 0.90 = approximately 3.69kWh
One module would fall short of that particular energy target. Two approved modules could exceed it, but the inverter, wiring, protection and battery communication must support the arrangement.
Do not assume modules can be mixed or connected in any configuration. Confirm the permitted models and installation method before expanding.
4. Check Output Power and Appliance Starting Demand
Capacity determines potential runtime. Output power determines which appliances can operate together.
Check the battery’s continuous discharge limit and the inverter’s continuous output in backup mode. Also verify starting-load capability and its supported duration.
As an example of why detailed specifications matter, Victron’s MultiPlus-II technical documentation distinguishes continuous output at different temperatures, peak output and zero-load consumption. Those are separate figures, not interchangeable ratings.
This is a technical example—not confirmation that a particular Victron model is compatible with a Fench battery.
Can a Home Battery Run an Air Conditioner?
Yes, when the battery and inverter support its running and starting requirements, but runtime depends on the actual electrical consumption.
Check:
- Electrical input power, rather than cooling capacity.
- Compressor starting demand.
- Inverter continuous and surge output.
- Other appliances operating simultaneously.
- Measured average consumption under expected conditions.
If an air conditioner and other backed-up loads consume an assumed average of 1.5kW together, the preceding table estimates approximately 4.8 hours from a 10kWh battery.
That estimate does not guarantee the system can start the compressor. Energy capacity and starting capability must both be adequate.
5. Confirm Battery and Inverter Compatibility
Matching nominal voltage or communication ports alone does not establish compatibility.
Before ordering, confirm the exact battery model, inverter model and firmware combination.
| Compatibility check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Voltage | Battery operating range fits the inverter |
| Current | Charge and discharge limits suit both products |
| Communication | The required BMS protocol is supported |
| Firmware | Compatibility applies to the installed versions |
| Backup function | The inverter supports the intended outage arrangement |
| Electrical supply | Voltage, frequency and phase coverage suit the property |
| Expansion | Additional modules follow an approved configuration |
A manufacturer may support selected models from a brand without supporting every inverter that brand sells.
Use our battery and solar inverter compatibility checklist to gather the relevant details.
Already have an inverter? Send Fench Energy its exact model and firmware information to request compatibility confirmation and identify any additional information needed before choosing a battery.
6. Plan How the System Will Recharge
A grid-charged battery has a finite amount of energy during an outage unless another supported source can recharge it.
Solar panels can extend backup operation only when the system supports solar generation and battery charging while disconnected from the grid. The Australian Government’s battery guidance describes arrangements where solar shuts down and islandable systems where it can continue supplying energy.
Ask your installer:
- Will solar recharge the battery during an outage?
- What happens when the battery reaches its discharge limit?
- How does the system restart?
- What charging energy is realistic during poor weather?
For extended outages, compare expected daily charging with daily consumption. More battery capacity provides a larger reserve, but does not resolve a continuing shortage of charging energy.
7. Compare the Complete Home Battery Backup Cost
Compare quotations for the same backup coverage and equipment—not just the battery price.
| Cost item | What the quotation should clarify |
|---|---|
| Battery | Model, capacity and included accessories |
| Inverter or charger | Existing equipment retained or new equipment supplied |
| Isolation and switching | Required outage-operation equipment |
| Circuit modifications | Which circuits are backed up |
| Installation and commissioning | Who installs, configures and tests the system |
| Delivery and import charges | What applies to the destination and shipping terms |
| Podpora | Supplier and installer responsibilities |
For global purchases, confirm currency, delivery arrangements and applicable taxes or import charges. Installation and approval requirements vary by market.
Fench Energy’s listed pickup prices should not be treated as complete installed-system quotations. Request delivery pricing for your country, postcode and quantity.

8. Compare Documented Fench Energy Battery Options
The following comparison uses published manufacturer manuals and identifies calculated figures separately.
| Specifikace | 5.12kWh wall-mounted battery | 16kWh stacked battery A1 |
|---|---|---|
| Produkt | 51.2V 5.12kWh Wall-Mounted Battery | 51.2V 16kWh Stacked Battery A1 |
| Manual product designation | 51.2V 100Ah Battery Pack | 51.2V 314Ah Battery Pack |
| Nominal energy stated in manual | 5,120Wh | 16,076Wh |
| Maximum continuous discharge current | 100A | 200A |
| Recommended SOC range | 15%–95% | 15%–95% |
| Approximate energy across that SOC window | 4.10kWh—calculated | 12.86kWh—calculated |
| Battery-side power at nominal voltage × maximum continuous current | 5.12kW—calculated DC reference | 10.24kW—calculated DC reference |
| Discharge cutoff stated in manual | 44.8V | 44.8V |
| Charging temperature | 0°C to 45°C | 0°C to 45°C |
| Discharging temperature | −20°C to 60°C | −20°C to 60°C |
| Enclosure rating | IP21 | IP21 |
| Manufacturer documentation | 100Ah manual, specification pages 7–8 | 314Ah manual, specification pages 7–8 |
How to interpret these figures: The SOC-window energy values are proportional planning estimates, not certified usable-energy results. The calculated DC power figures are not guaranteed AC backup outputs; operating voltage, BMS limits, temperature, wiring and inverter capability affect the final output.
The manufacturer manuals state nominal-energy ratings at 0.5C discharge. These are published specifications, not independent testing performed for this article.
The A1 product page separately lists 10kW output power. Its 250A circuit-breaker rating should not replace the manual’s 200A maximum continuous discharge-current specification.
Which Option Should You Evaluate?
The 5.12kWh wall-mounted battery is a smaller-capacity option to compare against selected essential loads and shorter backup targets.
The 16kWh A1 provides more stored energy to evaluate for longer runtime or greater consumption. Its larger capacity does not automatically establish whole-home coverage.
For either option, request confirmation that the linked manual applies to the exact product revision being quoted.
Installation, Certification and Warranty Checks
Both manuals specify IP21. Plan an installation location consistent with the manual and local requirements; do not treat either product as a weather-exposed outdoor battery. Confirm mounting or support requirements, clearances, cable sizing and access for maintenance.
The product specification tabs list CE, UN38.3 and IEC 62619. Request the applicable declaration, test summary and certification or test documents identifying the exact model. A standards label alone does not establish approval for every market. IEC describes IEC 62619 as safety requirements for industrial lithium batteries, including stationary applications.
Fench Energy’s published warranty policy lists five years for the 48V battery category and one year for the system BMS. It requires proof of purchase and excludes conditions such as improper installation and unauthorised modifications. Confirm the terms applicable to your 51.2V model, component coverage and destination before purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Use Home Battery Backup Without Solar Panels?
Yes. A compatible inverter/charger can charge the battery from the grid beforehand. The installation still needs the equipment and configuration required for backup.
Without another supported charging source, outage runtime is limited by the stored energy. See our guide to home battery storage without solar.
Is One Battery Enough to Run a House?
Sometimes, for selected loads and a suitable duration. Determine appliance energy and peak demand first, then compare them with the module’s available energy and system output. Module count must also follow the manufacturer’s approved configuration.
How Long Will a 10kWh Battery Power a House?
With an assumed 80% available-energy window and 90% conversion efficiency, the estimate is 14.4 hours at a constant 500W load or 4.8 hours at 1.5kW. Starting charge, losses, temperature, ageing and changing loads affect actual results.
Can a Home Battery Run an Air Conditioner?
Yes, if the complete system supports its electrical input and compressor starting demand. Use electrical consumption rather than cooling capacity when calculating runtime.
Is Battery Backup the Same as an Uninterruptible Power Supply?
Not automatically. Transfer time and supported operation depend on the equipment. Check whether sensitive devices require a separate UPS.
